Kane Williamson’s Milestone Moments

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson played a crucial role in the chase with 133*, setting multiple records:

His 187-run partnership with Devon Conway is the highest for any wicket for New Zealand against South Africa, breaking the previous record of 180 by Guptill and Ross Taylor in 2017.

He became the second-fastest batter to reach 7000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in 159 innings, just behind Hashim Amla (150 innings).

His 133 is now the highest ODI score by a New Zealand batter on Pakistan soil*, surpassing Daryll Mitchell’s 129 in 2023.

His 72-ball century is his second-fastest in ODIs, behind his 69-ball ton against Zimbabwe in 2011, and the fastest by a Kiwi against South Africa.

Tom Latham’s Unwanted Record

New Zealand’s Tom Latham became the fifth Kiwi to register three consecutive ducks in ODIs, joining Tony Blain, Danny Morrison, Richard de Groen, and Adam Parore. However, he is the first among them to do so while batting in the top seven.

Conclusion

Matthew Breetzke’s record-breaking 150 on debut is one of the greatest individual performances in ODI history. While South Africa fell short, his innings cemented his place among the best debutants. On the other hand, New Zealand’s successful chase, led by Kane Williamson’s masterclass, added another chapter to ODI history.
