IPL 2025 to Start on March 21 in Kolkata: Full Details Inside
The much-anticipated 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to commence on March 21, 2025, in Kolkata. This marks a slight change from the previously announced schedule, with the tournament now starting a week later than originally planned. The final is scheduled for May 25, making it a thrilling two-month cricket extravaganza.
Why the Schedule Changed
The original schedule proposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indicated a start date of March 14. However, this was later revised, potentially due to requests from broadcasters to avoid overlap with the Champions Trophy final on March 9. Despite reports, broadcasting sources have denied making such a request. Instead, the revised dates ensure ample preparation time post the Champions Trophy.
Key Venues and Matches
Eden Gardens, home to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and winners of IPL 2024, will host both the opening match and the final. This aligns with the IPL tradition of hosting marquee matches in the reigning champion’s home city. Additionally, the SunRisers Hyderabad, runners-up in 2024, will host two playoff matches, adding to the excitement.
Leadership Changes and Announcements
The BCCI recently concluded a Special General Meeting in Mumbai on January 12, at which Devjit Saikia was elected secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia treasurer. The finalized IPL schedule is expected to be announced shortly. Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy squad announcement is slated for January 17 or 18. The venues for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) have also been finalized and are expected to be revealed soon.
What to Expect in IPL 2025
Fans can look forward to electrifying matches, iconic rivalries, and memorable moments. With top players and teams vying for glory, IPL 2025 promises to be a spectacle like no other. Stay tuned for updates on match schedules, team line-ups, and venue details.
