Ravichandran Ashwin Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from international cricket with immediate effect. The announcement came after India’s draw in the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on December 18.

Ashwin, the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket, wraps up an illustrious 14-year career. He played 106 Tests, claiming 537 wickets, which ranks him 7th on the all-time list. His achievements include 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests, joint-second with Shane Warne and behind only M Muralitharan.

In addition to Tests, Ashwin represented India in 116 ODIs (156 wickets) and 65 T20Is (72 wickets). Known for his excellence in red-ball cricket, he also holds the record for dismissing 268 left-handers in Tests.

A versatile cricketer, Ashwin contributed with the bat too, scoring 3503 Test runs with 6 centuries and 14 fifties. He also set the Indian record for achieving a century and a five-wicket haul in the same Test on four occasions.

India bids farewell to one of its greatest match-winners.
